WINDHAM GARDEN CLUB MINUTES OF REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING May 15, 2008
I. WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm at the Windham Town Hall by President Jill Martin The Officers present were President Jill Martin 1st Vice-Pres Denise Sarnie - Programs 2nd Vice-Pres Julia Salafia - Yearbook + Website Rhonda Peckham - Membership Treasurer Jean Manthorne Secretary Su Bennett

1st VICE PRESIDENT-PROGRAMS: No news 2ND VICE PRESIDENT- YEARBOOK + WEBSITE: - WGC website- all the photos have been removed temporarily because that application used by the website was hacked into – Julia is getting the issue resolved 2ND VICE PRESIDENT - MEMBERSHIP: No new members to report TREASURER: Financial Statements posted SECRETARY: Prior meeting Minutes posted on the WGC website + on the bulletin board
PRESIDENT: - NHFGC Annual Mtg on May 28 – celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the NHFGC Planning to attend: Jill Martin, Joanne Ago, Bea Heinze, Linda German + Su Bennett
IV. OPEN TO THE FLOOR STANDING COMMITTEES: CIVIC IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE – Joanne Ago - Butterfly Garden at the Nesmith Library, plan to trim next Tue or Wed - Traffic Island at Cobbetts Pond, new shrubs + perennials will be added before Memorial Day HORTICULTURE COMMITTEE – Josie Cappiello + Jill Martin - Container Garden Workshop – June 1at Josie’s – need to sign up ahead of time with Shirlee JR GARDEN CLUB – Cassandra + Julia Salafia and Bea Heinze - Mother’s Day Sale-SOLD OUT! Very successful, made $300 – sold violas + marigolds Held at the Transfer station the Saturday before Mother’s Day Next year will have more violas !!! PLANT SALE COMMITTEE – Jill Martin - The usual: signup sheets and reminders of times + tasks - We will use our 42 new tables this year - Raffle- for the first time there will be an Herb Basket raffled for members only
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE – Grace Marad - This year there were 5 applicants for the 2 $2,000 Scholarships
SPECIAL COMMITTEES/EVENTS: ANNUAL AWARDS PRESENTED AT SUMMER SOLSTICE - - Please let Jill know of any nominations ART in BLOOM – Denise Sarnie + Evie Saad - This was an exhibition, it wasn’t judged –Denise had a picture on her laptop Art Object: large, clay colored, vase – Egyptian or Italian? Arrangement: wine colored calla lilies, greens – it was stunning + received many compliments ARTHUR BAKER COMMUNITY INVESTMENT GRANT – Linda German - Unfortunately, there were no applicants this year CLUB HISTORY – Sam Dubreuil - Meetings are at Sam’s home where much work is being done! THIS MONTH’S THEME – NHFGC 75th Anniversary – many shades of purple + white lilacs Many thanks to Ellen Davis, Bea Heinze, and Siri Wilbur VI. PROGRAM Floral arrangements from what you have: Members brought in flowers from their gardens+ unwanted vases, baskets, whatever The Club provided more cut flowers. Five members selected at random created 2-3 arrangements each Names were drawn for them + most members went home with a beautiful original arrangement
